"Historical Classroom"
In 1988, the previously independent Immendorf Secondary School was merged with the Geilenkirchen Secondary School. The now vacated building was repurposed to house the Catholic Primary School and the Kindergarten. On the initiative of Karl-Heinz Gast and Peter Kück, a classroom was allocated to set up a "Historical Classroom." This room initially collected all the school materials that had become outdated or unusable after the move from the secondary school or had been decommissioned. These included old school desks and benches, maps, epi- and diascopes, as well as textbooks—basically, all the items typically used in teaching.
To document school life, the collection was expanded to include certificates, diplomas, and class photos. The initiators sought to obtain complete sets of class photos from the old Immendorf School, with the oldest class photo dating back to the school year 1908.
Publication Series
The publication series of the Historical Classroom is released every two years. In 2023, marking the 30th anniversary of the school museum, it was already the 23rd edition. As always, it reports on the work of the Historical Classroom, explores educational and local history topics, and features contributions from the members of the association. The association members receive the publication as an annual gift.
