Stadtradeln (City Cycling Challenge)
STADTRADELN is a competition aimed at encouraging participants to use bicycles for as many everyday journeys as possible over a period of 21 days. It doesn’t matter whether you’re already an avid cyclist or if you rarely use a bicycle—every kilometer counts, especially if it replaces a car trip.
The results of the annual competition demonstrate how many people are already using bicycles and thus contributing to climate protection. To encourage even more people to make the switch from cars to bicycles permanently, we need cycling infrastructure that allows them to reach their destinations quickly and safely.
To highlight the needs of cyclists, STADTRADELN also targets local politicians, who are the decision-makers when it comes to cycling infrastructure and practical climate protection at the local level. During the campaign, they take on the cyclist's perspective themselves, experiencing firsthand where their community is already bicycle-friendly and where improvements are needed.
For many decades, cars have been the dominant factor in the realm of mobility. This mindset must change in order to reduce traffic-related environmental damage. Since the shift in transportation begins in our minds, the topic of cycling should be made more prominent in public discourse. STADTRADELN creates opportunities for communication on both regional and local levels in communities to help achieve this goal.
